Following her unexpected victory in the Miss Israel pageant, actress Gal Gadot, most famous for her portrayal of “Wonder Woman,” found herself representing her country in the Miss Universe competition. However, instead of trying her best to win, Gal went out of her way to lose points. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, she looked back fondly on the experience, recalling how she put on a thick local accent and pretended not to speak English when judge Paula Abdul asked her questions. Gal humorously shared, “I did my best to sabotage my chances of winning the crown!”
Gal Gadot made a bold move when she entered the Miss Universe competition back in 2004. However, in a chat with Jimmy Kimmel years later, she admitted that the beauty queen life just wasn’t for her. She joined the Miss Israel pageant at 18 mostly for the thrill of being flown to Europe and the chance to share a quirky story with her future kids and grandkids. Despite her stunning looks, Gal didn’t fully believe in her own beauty. In an Instagram throwback, she even questioned why she was chosen as Miss Israel.
After the pageant, Gal chose a different path and served in the Israeli Defense Forces for two years as a combat instructor. Even though she studied Law and International Relations with hopes of becoming a lawyer, her knack for acting couldn’t be ignored. She appeared in various TV shows in Israel before trying out for a role in a James Bond film in 2008. Despite not getting the part, Gal’s commitment to improving her craft led her back to Hollywood, where she eventually landed a role in Fast and Furious 5.
Gal’s big break came when she took on the role of Wonder Woman, a character she portrayed perfectly, garnering worldwide acclaim. The success of the 2017 Wonder Woman film, with earnings surpassing $800 million, catapulted her into stardom almost overnight. She was then offered $10 million for the sequel, a huge jump from the $300,000 she received for the first installment. On top of that, Gal signed a lucrative deal to star in the upcoming film Cleopatra.
